What is A-Eye?

We are proud to be the leader in introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optometric practices, and it is now time for Iso Leso to launch its own A-EYE platform. Our in-house developed AI platform is available to all Iso Leso’s capitated contracted medical schemes and our associated shareholders

Optometry is being driven by winds of change that present equal amounts of exciting opportunities and threats as we navigate the fast-pace digital world. Modern technology and the introduction of “machine learning” driven by algorithms that continues to outperform human expertise, has had a great impact in several medical fields.

In the eye care field, most notably are the AI solutions offered in the early detection of diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and glaucoma. This is achieved via the uploading of a digital photographic image of the back of the eye that results in a report within 30 seconds.

AI is likely to become commonplace over the next few years helping optometrists and ophthalmologists with clinical decision-making and improved patient care.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is almost limitless as to how it can positively impact our world. And the optometry profession and your optometry practice, is no different. Embrace AI today and allow optometry to be an indispensable link in health care, improve your patients’ outcomes and strengthen your practice

The system:

  • AI software is fed a huge database of images and trained to distinguish between healthy and Diabetic Retinopathy affected eyes by teaching it to recognise the characteristics of each.

  • The portal for easy access to a specialist opinion and the resultant interactive co-management between primary and secondary care, will result in upstream (early) intervention and save on downstream (costly) intervention and/or rehabilitation.

Reimbursement:

The Pilot programme will be covering the following fund claims:

  • Key Care (Iso Leso)
  • Bankmed Basic (Iso Leso)
  • Fedhealth Myfed (Iso Leso)
  • BP (Iso Leso)
  • SizweHosmed (Iso Leso)
  • Glencore (Iso Leso)

In terms of these funds, when conducting a routine vision examination (11001/11081) you will be entitled to claim an additional amount, provided you have conducted an AVI additional evaluation and submitted a claim.
